Hi There.

I’m Liz Schmittgens. I’m an enthusiastic study of yoga practice and teaching (RYT 200 + Pre-natal). I teach yoga and meditation classes, as well as pop-up events around Denver, Colorado. As a teacher, I offer balanced, all-levels flows. You can always expect a class fueled by intention, music, and creativity.

While “Z” is a nickname bestowed by my mother, zealous is a representation of my life lens: optimistic, eager, and wholehearted. I started Yoga Zealous as a way to live into my values and share my best self the world.

Also — I’m a lover of bullet journaling, reading, reading about the Enneagram (7w8), traveling, and trying just about anything new. I live and work in the Denver area, enjoying life in Colorado along with my husband and daughter, Baby Z.

My Approach

As a teacher, I offer balanced, all-levels flows. You can always expect a class fueled by intention, music, and creativity. If it’s your first class, there will always be modifications. If it’s your 1000th class, I’ll cue when to crank it up or turn it down. Have an injury? Tell me about it and we can make adjustments. Body awareness, safety, and mindful movement are paramount.

I completed my 200-hour teacher training in 2019 and my 85-hour pre-natal training in 2020. Sharing the practice of yoga and self-care is such a passion of mine. I’d love to work with you to create a custom class (and playlist!) just for you and your group.

Since becoming a yoga instructor, one of the greatest things I’ve experienced is the connection with other teachers. I’ve found every fellow instructor to be supportive, open, and willing to share everything from their teaching experience to their playlists! If you would like to plan a collaboration with me, whether that looks like a coffee date or an event, reach out!

Observing the History of Yoga

This topic is so important to me. While Western Yoga is very focused on the physical practice, the “asana”, it is just one of the 8 limbs of yoga. As I teacher, I strive to bring awareness of the yogic limbs into my classes, even if students are simply there to stretch and sweat. I believe it is important to recognize yoga’s rich history because, in doing so, this is where the yoga really happens - living the lessons of the practice off the mat. We deprive ourselves of so many benefits yoga has to offer without practicing the other 7 limbs, but as a wise teacher once told me:

The good news is, even if students are only there for the physical practice, the yoga will still happen to them.
